Its extreme downtown is the battery, where that noble mole is washed by waves, and cooled by breezes, which a few hours previous were out of sight of land. Look at the crowds of water-gazers there. Circumambulate the city of a dreamy Sabbath afternoon. Go from Corlears Hook to Coenties Slip, and from thence, by Whitehall, northward. What do you see?—Posted like silent sentinels all around the town, stand thousands upon thousands of mortal men fixed in ocean reveries. Some leaning against the spiles; some seated upon the pier-heads; some looking over the bulwarks of ships from China; some high aloft in the rigging, as if striving to get a still better seaward peep. But these are all landsmen; of week days pent up in lath and plaster—tied to counters, nailed to benches, clinched to desks. How then is this? Are the green fields gone? What do they here? But look! here come more crowds, pacing straight for the water, and seemingly bound for a dive. Strange! Nothing will content them but the extremest limit of the land; loitering under the shady lee of yonder warehouses will not suffice. No. They must get just as nigh the water as they possibly can without falling in. And there they stand—miles of them—leagues. Inlanders all, they come from lanes and alleys, streets avenues—north, east, south, and west. Yet here they all unite. Tell me, does the magnetic virtue of the needles of the compasses of all those ships attract them thither? Once more. Say you are in the country; in some high land of lakes. Take almost any path you please, and ten to one it carries you down in a dale, and leaves you there by a pool in the stream. There is magic in it. Let the most absent-minded of men be plunged in his deepest reveries—stand that man on his legs, set his feet a-going, and he will infallibly lead you to water, if water there be in all that region. Should you ever be athirst in the great American desert, try this experiment, if your caravan happen to be supplied with a metaphysical professor. Yes, as every one knows, meditation and water are wedded for ever. But here is an artist. He desires to paint you the dreamiest, shadiest, quietest, most enchanting bit of romantic landscape in all the valley of the Saco. What is the chief element he employs? There stand his trees, each with a hollow trunk, as if a hermit and a crucifix were within; and here sleeps his meadow, and there sleep his cattle; and up from yonder cottage goes a sleepy smoke. We are visiting Toronto and Niagara Falls in December for a birthday celebration. I would like to spend the weekend at Niagara ( I think) and the rest of the week in Toronto downtown area. Should I book two hotels to do this or is it close enough to commute back to Toronto after seeing the sights in Niagara. I want to be in Niagara at night to see the falls light up and perhaps have dinner. I am looking at the Embassy Suites hotel. Anyone have experience with this property? Also looking at theMarriotttt tresidence Inn in downtown Toronto any suggestions will be appreciated. this is just the rough short story i've just written..give me your opinion about the plot..mind the grammar mistakes..i'll edit that later..can't wait to read your opinions! here's the story (it's just a fiction,ok.not a real life story) Kim just got back from her workplace. she was so tired that she can even sleep standing up. "huhhh..what a hectic week for me.." she had this big research project she have to handle causing her to stay up 24/7 for months now.luckily,the project finished successfully today.And she desperately asked for a holiday.She said she wanted to travel around the world..hehe..Actually,she's not.Traveling around the world means staying at home in her dictionaries.Looks like she's still like her teenage days.Naughty and always good in finding excuses and multiply reasons.She haven't changed a bit.Well,except for herself.She's 27 years old now.Still single.Childish for her age.She's not chubby anymore instead growing up to be a stunningly beautiful woman.Yet,she still haven't got any boyfriend mainly because she refuses to go out with them.She'll create various reasons for not going on the blind dates her friends set up.Or,she'd just play with them. Deep down,she still haven't recovered from her past relationship.or so-called relationship.Apparently,she never intended to forget her first love. Later that night,she found herself digging the closet finding suitable clothing for that stupid dinner.After 15 minutes of hard work,she found herself her favorite shirt and khaki pants(it's uncomfortable to wear jeans in front of him).It's like going on a first date or something.But still.It's not a date.. When she arrived at the fancy restaurant(didn't know that this guy even had a taste like this),he's already waiting for her patiently at the table nearby the large window.Nice view!I didn't know what did he see in me.Well,she knows she's not wearing an appropriate dress and all.Wearing sneakers never harm anyone,right? She heard her stomach make a grumbling noise and realized she haven't eat anything today yet.No wonder she's so skinny.Now,she really misses her old body back.The 17 years old Kim seems happy..not like her now.She looked like people with anorexia or something. "Can we take orders now?"he asked her politely. Since when this guy was being polite with her?As far as she remembered,he never talk nicely to her.In fact,they're always teasing each other..10 years back that is.Now,everything seems different. "So,what have you become Ger?"She used to called him Ger. Now,it seems awkward calling him by that name.This is because he wasn't the old Gerry anymore.In fact,he looked hot.She immediately cut the thought out of her mind. "I'm a 3D animator".he replied with a slight smile on his face.That's cute! "Owhhhh...seems like you have what you've been dreaming of right?Being a 3D animator and all" "Yeahh..you're right.except for one thing".his face look solemn all of the sudden.His expression,is however,can't be read.Is this Gerry that she'd known before?10 years ago,he'll tell her everything,,almost anything. "What's that thing?" "Being with someone whom I love" *cough* that made she choked on her salad.what???! and she thought he's already married.What happened to her fiancee he always mentioning? "eh,i thought you're married with Jennifer..what happened?" his expressionless face suddenly turned out to be moody all of the sudden and she knew she had said the wrong word..oooopsss.. "I'm sorry to ask you that.You don't need to answer that".She said reluctantly. "ermmm..never mind.We're going to tell everything happened in our lives anyway..Let me start" You can tell that she just lose her appetite to eat that delicious meal to hear what he's saying.She's always been like that. "Actually,I didn't get married with her."she tried not to show her shocked face as he spoke. "We're getting so closed on that day before I realized one thing.I didn't love her.I thought I could love her after..after I made the decision about you..I really thought I can do that".he started to get emotional. Kim,on the other hand,stood there like a statue listening to the confession.Tears are just starting to flow.. Whoever passing the room must have thought he was talking to himself.Well,he's not.In fact,he was talking to his beloved wife. He then put the book aside and take a nap beside the person sleeping on the bed.No signs of her waking up to reply to him.But,she can definitely heard him clearly. The accident 3 years ago made Kim in comatose condition.He still remember when the doctor said she'd never wake up maybe for the rest of her life.But he would never give up.The doctor said if their family support the patient mentally and physically,the chances of her waking up maybe a little bit higher.a little.but,he never gave up.He spent almost his time watching over her and eventually starts talking and reading books and articles for her.He knew she'd listen because the doctor said so. He began to tell her every single detail what happened in his life..just like he intended to..and he also started to decorate the room just like a home to make sure she's comfortable.This act has inspire many people from that hospital.Even the doctor was impressed with the couple.They're so strong.If only that accident didn't occur than they would live happily ever after.but,it's been 3 years now and still no change from her.she's still looks like that.that cute face almost haven't change for 3 years.and yet she's still sleeping like a sleeping beauty waiting for her prince charming to come and kiss her.But,it's just a fairy tale. I live near Buffalo and Buffalo Metro bus goes from downtown Buffalo to Downtown Niagara falls (roughly 25 miles). it is like $2.25 each way.
