," or barley malt syrup) and no corn syrup. I don't know about you, but slathering my barbecued ribs with corn syrup doesn't exactly sound appetizing to me. There were only about a million different brands and flavors, but I could only find one sauce , that was gluten-free and corn syrup free. Only one! And almost every sauce had corn syrup as the first ingredient, meaning there was more corn syrup...-free and not made out of corn syrup? I kid you not, it cost $7 for 1.5 cups of sauce. hello, just a question. Is beer thick just after fermentation? I have made some beer starting from barley. I have malted the barley, and then put the malt into water with a proportion of 1kg to two litres of water. Is it too much? the reason behind this, I was to try and reach a correct density. Since the density translates into alcoholic percentage to a ration of 3 to one, I tried to reach 15 grades on my densimeter to get 5% alcohol. Doing this, the beer that resulted is thick like a syrup although the taste, aside from a little too much hop, is quite good. Let us say that I tasted the beer just less than a week after bottling (I used high fermentation yeast). Do you know if leaving the beer for longer will allow the thickness to go and the beer to be more fluid? thank you Beer Monster -This is a totally bogus question/setup no it's not. "densimeter"- ooppss Im sorry for my English, I was just translating from Italian. Densimetro in Italian indicates a gauge used to mesure the density of a liquid and according to my dictionary, you can call it either densimeter or hydrometer. I did malt the barley. That is I went to the mill, bought a bag of barley. the barley has been washed and let under two inches of water for 48 hours with a pause of 8 hours or "breathing". Then it has been put to germinate, roots came out and little sprouts, and that's when we put the barley to dry for 48 hours. Thats how we got the malt. then we crushed the malt into a grinder and made some kind of coarse flour out of it. then we made an infusion steeping it into hot water for 90 minutes at 45C and 90 min. at 55C then brought up the temperature to 76C, brought it down quickly to 20C, added the yeast and let it ferment for a week. My problem is, if you do not add that much malt, how how can you get enough density to reach those 15 grades on the hydormeter? I use a Babo densimeter that is used for wine making too and it looks like a thermometer. when you put this densimetre into the wort, it comes up and reading the value level with the surface of the liquid, dividing by 3 you would get the potential alcoholic content of the future beer. if the density of the wort is too low you get less alcohol. my target was to get a 5 % beer, and to get to that I had to have a wort with a density of 15 or 16 notches on the hydrometre. Am I getting something wrong here aside the fact that I'm using a hydrometre used for wine (they told me it's the same)? how do you get the density of your wort up without adding too much malt? How much malt do you use per litre? thanks moreResolved Question: Do they still make Bath Oliver Crackers?
