Open Question: Ending a unhealthy long term friendship?

Since there is divorce for failing marriage, I believe there is disolution of a long term friendship if it is no longer healthy, right? So here is the story about my current friend. I dont know if should distance myself from her since I dont find her to have any more positive influence on our friendship but constant drama she caused to get by with her life. I dont think I like to talk about her with my friends behind her back. but I can use some opinion here. Here is how it goes. We used to get along when we were in college. 1. After graduation, she turned into a ghetto because she kept on dating undatable guys assuming she can turn nasty guys into good guys for her. unrealistic and immature expectation eh? Each time she got hurt, she came to us for drama and relief but she never took our advice to stay independent. 2.She is very needy and gets ofended if we dont pick up her persistent calling (she has no purpose for a life after college graduation). 3.And lost her good family upbringing. Each time we arrange to meet up, we have to inform her twice to wait for her slowly walking out of her apartment into our cars. 4.She usually find way to put less portion of payment on restaurant bills by comparing our bills and then puts the bill through her card. So that we end up paying for her tips. She is not broke but got bad finance management. 5.We feel like we are in a friendship of convenience this way. As she turned into a bitter person, she sometimes say things that seem to be friendly in a way that bring us down to make herself happy (being a frienemy type of person). I think she made her choice to take it out on other people and live like a mean and vindictive person. 6.The worst part is that, this girl has got THE SKILLS in engaging non-stop argument by attacking loopole of words and inviting unlimited blames to avoid her sense of guilt for being inconsiderate. That means she can never be wrong unless we have to settle with her newly claims against us! I really hate that. That is why I am so tired of seeing her these days. I feel the needs to have good and mature friends. I dont want to lose a friend. But it seem that I dont really care about her since there is so much drama and negativity she brought to me and my other friend's life. I want to spend time to get to know positive people. People with goal and have a job intead of those like her being princess ghetto who think she is entitle to be bitchy to everyone because she is not happy and cannot take care of herself. Please show your opinion if you know how to end this friendship and have experience in dealing with this kind of situation.  more

Resolved Question: Paying More On A Car Loan?

Hi, I am about to buy a new Honda Accord at the end of July. I plan on using Honda's 3.9% interest for 60 months financing (if it is still available). I went to the dealership and was quoted $425.93 a month for 60 months. I plan on paying at least $700-800 car payments for the first year. Also, I will have a bonus and income tax return that I plan to put towards the vehicle within the year. This should total an additional $2,000 to $4,000 off the car loan. I am trying to figure out two things. Will doing this lower my monthly payments? Also, will this reduce the amount of interest owed every month? Basically in a year I hope to have payments near $300 a month. Is this possible? Thanks in advance!  more

Resolved Question: christian women are weak by trusting they're husbands?

okay..so here is the deal..I keep hearing all this stuff about how bad it is that the bible states that women should be submissive to they're husbands..people without understanding keep harping on this and its driving me crazy. Because for the most part..they have it all wrong, and they are unwilling to listen to what the bible really says on the subject. Its either complete ignorance, or they know the truth but still want to keep spreading unwarranted lies. So here is the deal, I'm a christian, and I'm a christian wife to a christian husband. Here is what that means...my husband is a god fearing man who trusts in the Lord for everything, he follows Jesus and Jesus' teachings. Which means..he is very very trustworthy. He is very loving, and he is very giving. In my opinion..if you cannot trust a man absolutely, then you should not be marrying him to begin with people. God intended marriages to work in this avenue..two people who trust in him and follow in him, without that...then yes a marriage where you do not have a Godly man where he expects his wife to be submissive will fail. the marriages we see today are not what God intended. God intended the marriages to be those by men who trusted in him and kept his commandments along with a wife who does the same, as well as trusting in her husband the same way she trusts in the lord. Hence the scripture...Wives submit to your husbands as the church submits to christ..and husbands, love your wives as Jesus loved the church. The bible as states...wives submit to your husbands...and husbands submit to your wives. Its not all about women being subservient,...its not about us losing our rights, nor our feminism. So here is the deal, I chose wisely, I made sure not to even consider marriage to any man unless I truly trusted him with everything. And my husband has never betrayed that trust. I used to work, and with the birth of our first child I chose to stay home. I realize not many women have this option, due to finances, etc. But we did, and while I enjoyed work, I could not stand the thought of my 6 week old baby being in daycare from 8am till 6pm, after all...I had her, she was my baby, shouldn't I be raising her? So what did this mean? after all, we had just bought our first house, and had two car payments.....things were tight. It meant my husband working longer hours and stressing more than he had before, because now it wasn't just him and me, but there was this precious little baby to feed and clothe, to take care of. Don't get me wrong, he had a wonderful job, so bills were paid, but for a while, the extra we had before was not there. But ....I was a stay at home mom now, and before we both worked, we both cleaned the house, we both took care of things together. But now, I was home and he was not. So here is what I want to put to you...for 10 years I had a job, with a boss, that boss was at one time a woman and at another time a man. That boss told me when I had to be to work, which meant in a round about way..that boss told me when I had to get up, they told me when I could have my break, which meant? they told me when I could eat. and since they made the rules on how long my lunch break was..they pretty much had control over when I would stop eating. They told me when my work day was over, which meant they were telling me when I could return home. And what did I do? I made sure I followed all those rules, to ensure I kept my job. But when I began to stay home? well..my husband never told me when to wake up, he never told me when to eat, he never told me how long I had to eat and he never told when I could or could not go somewhere. And yet..we fight against following our husbands. We'll bend over backwards to make it to a job and to follow the laws of a boss..who could care less if you get laid off tomorrow, but to be submissive to our husbands..is wrong? then why did we marry them? why does making sure our husbands are loved and cared for, and taken care of, mean that we are weak? do we not make sure our bosses are happy? do we not make sure to be commited fully to our jobs? so why then does doing so for a marriage mean bad things? my husband gets up at 5am to go to work 2 hours away and returns home at 9pm. I've never had to worry about our bills, or food, or clothes, or christmas or foreclosures or doctors or even the occasional vacations..so then why should I not ensure that at 5am he has clean clothes to wear? that he has a meal to eat when he comes home..a clean house to come home to that he works his ass off for? why should I not tell him he is the best? and make him feel good about himself? why should I not stroke his ego to let him know how much I appreciate him..I can tell you doing so has paid me off more than any job paycheck ever did. but I'm weak? it sounds to me like maybe instead some just weren't very smart in who they chose to marry. hannah what is controlling about a husband and wife having mutual submission, love and respect?..what would be controlling about my husband being so wonderful to me, that yes..when he needs something I am there to help him? how is that controlling? if that is controlling then what would be the point of marriage? nunya..I'm not really complaining, but I'm very tired of coming in here and reading about how it is weak for me to follow what God says about a marriage between a husband and a wife, I'm a very tired of hearing how by doing so, I am controlled, I am weak, I am antifeminist..its ridiculous..I mean..why then do women get married? if they cannot trust they're husbands be fully commited to them? exactly jiloth..and am I right in saying that could not work if your wife did not trust you completely? am I not right in saying that if a woman cannot trust her husband completely in order to allow him to take the husband role, then she should not be marrying him in the first place? I dont know about anyone else, but I sure dont want to marry a man I cannot rely on. I totally agree lindy...and God's scenario does not always come to be..there are many men out there who abuse what they read and hear, and that is unfortunate, and I advocate divorce in those situations..strongly, my mother was such a woman and I prayed everyday she would leave my father, he was not a godly man, but would use what her bible had to say against her. so yes..there are scenarios where men abuse what is written, but that doesn't mean every situation is the same. Andy stanley is the pastor of the church we attend and he recently had a fantastic service on this exact subject..he said falling in love is easy, staying in love takes a plan, but both have to be in on the marriage, both have to be in on each other, you can find him at northpoint.org..he has alot of other great sermons on a whole host of things that are great. follows Jesus..there was a verse I read a long long time ago, that always stayed wtih me, but I can't find it now..but it basically talked about the bedroom aspects of marriage..and if I remember correctly it was in the old testament and it stated something about the wife and husband submitting to each other in such things..it mostly related to bedroom areas, but we use it for our entire marriage as much as possible. but it basically was talking about how sometimes wives may refuse to make love with they're husbands when they are mad, and vice versa, and what God was basically saying was...don't make the wedge further, forgive each other, submit to each other..love each other..but I can't remember the exact book I read that in the old testament.  more

Open Question: Can car dealerships do this?!?

I bought a car a week ago from a dealership. Was used, priced at $10000. They printed out my credit that night and went over it with me, basically said my credit wasnt bad, I just didnt have much on it, and therefore my down payment would have to be higher. I paid $1,500 out of pocket right then and there, they signed the papers, and the next day I bought insurance for $250 first payment ($135 thereafter). Basically I laid down 1750 in a matter of 20 hours, to drive this car off the lot. 1 week later I get a call waking me up telling me that they cannot finance it, as I dont make enough money (I made $2,200 a month, with no expenses other than car and insurance, which grand totals to $400 a month) and that they want the car back as of tomorrow. Can they do this?! Shouldnt they have LOOKED before handing me the keys, or making me pay a wicked first payment on my insurance? Now I have 6 months of contracted insurance, for no car. Even if they cancel it for me, I still paid $250 bucks for SEVEN DAYS. WTF! Why should I go to a bank first? Its the dealerships job to ensure a loan works out. They shouldnt have let me walk off the lot unless it was 1000% mine, let alone let me buy insurance and pay so much down on it.  more

Open Question: will they let me keep my car?

My car note is 56 days past due.I have called to keep my finance company posted letting them know that my hours have been cut and I am getting a new full time job to help me.The Representative brushed me off and asked me what color my car was and that they were going to forward my info to recovery.I let them know that all i want to do is pay for this car and I need until i get my first paycheck. Three days later a rep came to my down and left a letter that said that my account was forwarded to collections and to call them within 48 hours. Does it sound like they want to work something out,or do they just want to repossess it? It is a 2007 ford taurus,I bought it at 11,000 as a used car,I am not sure what it is worth now. Do you think they want me car,or do they want me to pay.I have no problem paying,I just need time, but seem to not want to listen. i need any helpful advice, thanks  more

Open Question: Bought Certified Used car. Blew up 9 days after. "Warranty" won't cover. Can I get my money back somehow?

I bought a Ford Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle. (2005 Ford Escape V6). I put $8,000 down and financed the remainder. I drove it for 9 days. I was on my way to Arkansas, and the engine blew up. It was towed to the nearest Ford garage. It has the original power train warranty still and the 3 month bumper to bumper warranty that came with it for being a certified vehicle. I was told it wouldn't be covered, because it was a radiator hose that became disconnected, and I should have noticed the temp. guage on hot. The temp. gauge was on cold, not hot. I figured it was just loose. Anyway, it will cost me $6,022 plus any additional parts that may be needed, since hoses and tires are not covered under either warranty. Why would hoses not be covered under a warranty? They are part of what makes the car run! Is there possible way to get my money back and cancel the loan? I just need a car that runs! I bought that car, because I figured it would be reliable. Guess not... Please help. Chance I was using cruise control on the highway doing the speed limit. Everything was running perfect, except the gauge said cold. I figured if it was hot, it would say hot, and it couldn't be cold, since it had been running. I knew it was a loose connection. Or not... Then, right before it blew up, the engine started reving up to 6,500-7,000 RPMs. That only happened for less than two seconds. Before I could take cruise control off, the engine blew up and started pouring smoke out. There was no power. Is there any law that I can use in my favor since I only owned the vehicle for 9 DAYS!!!???  more

Open Question: How do I improve my credit score?

I was one of the 18 year olds that filled out every credit application and racked up the balances quickly and would forget to make payments or just couldn't. Now that I'm older and understand the value of credit, I am very conscience of my credit score and my finances now. However, my credit is tarnished from poor decisions (3 were delinquent accounts, 2 in good standing, and 1 car loan that I've never been late on). I've paid off all my cards, closed two accounts, and left two open. I now pay any balance on my cards every month, if I even use the card at all. I need to get my credit up so I can think about buying a home. Any suggestions on boosting my score????  more

Open Question: Car Dealers input wanted: Looking at purchasing a used 05 Minivan from a car lot with pretty good prices...?

they sell most their cars pretty quickly b/c of this I've noticed. All their prices say asking price "whatever" so after test driving other day and liked the van find they don't do in house financing which wasn't a problem so call 3 days later and said interested in buying if can get a decent price asking 15,990 and the man says make me a offer so I said 15K even and we had a deal and he says that is way to low I cannot except that " I have to make some $ on the vehicle ". What approach should I take next b/c not going to pay the asking price and why the heck did he ask me then to make him a offer, believe I even said 15,200 and he turned that down? I'm thinking of telling him tomorrow I'll give 15,400 and we'll have a deal and purchase right then but who knows with his approach? Any dealers got any ideas, I haven't shown in "love or desperate want" for the vehicle.  more

Open Question: where to get a $4000.00 Car Loan?

Open Question: Will I get approved for an car loan without a cosigner at 19?

I'm looking to finance a used Honda Fit that costs $12,000. I will have $6000 to put down on it in August. I have $5,500 in Stafford loans and only owe $120 on a credit card with a $600 limit that I've had for five months and have only once carried a balance over to the next month. I also have a credit card from a retail store with a limit of $250 for three or four months and its balance is $0 right now. I make $1200 a month after taxes and pay no rent. I've worked at one of my jobs for a year now, and the other one two months. Oh yea, and I've tried checking my FICO score but I haven't had my credit card long enough for them to determine the score yet. I'm waiting till August because that's when I will have had my first credit card for six months. Also, I will probably be getting pre-approved for a loan, I have nothing negative on my credit reports, and my Experian PLUS score is a 681 (That was before I paid my credit cards down.) Do I stand a fair chance? I don't mind paying a high interest rate until I can establish better credit and refinance. I'm looking for a four year loan as well. Thanks! An Experian PLUS score is for consumers only, no commercial lenders use that score. And like I said, it was when I had balances of nearly 80% of my total credit limit, and that was only for one month. Now my debt to credit ratio is only 16%, or $120. Anything under 20% looks extremely good to lenders as it shows financial resposibility. I was looking for answers from people that knew a little bit more about this as I've done my research...  more

Voting Question: Can i sue my co-signer for taking the car even though he's not made any financial contribution?

A while back, me and my friend co-signed for my car. I had no established credit so therefore he agreed to sign the loan with me. Everything was okay as far as the car went he signed and i paid, january of 2009 i ran into a hour cut and had some issues paying on the note. nothing serious just a couple of days late and then even more hour cuts in march. Well i was making the payments its just they were hitting 30 days late because i get paid bi-weekly not on the 1st and 15th, so my paycheck always made it late. However the bank stated that i had to catch up or they would place the car under repossession. I made the arrangements and caught the payment up. they payment ended up being returned and i never received any further information until i called the bank after the incident with the co-signer. they payment was 43 days late but NEVER up for repossession. A man comes to repossess the vehicle claiming its from the bank. Well i call the bank they say there's no such notation on the account they're just looking to resolve the missed payment that was never received. After investigating the issue, comes to find out the co-signer is the one who placed a repo on the car using the finance companies name. The reason being is me and the co-signer got into a dispute and i told him we are no longer friends strictly business. The car has been paid for by myself for the past 16 months in which then he picked the car up. Well he submitted the late payment. The car was never up for repossession and he claims that he's taking the vehicle over because i've damaged his credit score and the bank was going to repo, saying that i've dropped his score as much as 300 points. Just because i've been late on a few payments. The car was never actually repossessed and my credit score is higher than what he is claiming his is and i started out with no credit whatsoever. My question is, Since the vehicle was never in danger of being repossessed and i'm the only one who's been making payments on the vehicle until his recent payment that he submitted which i'm guessing he's hoping to use as legal rebound, Can i in fact sue him for the damages he has caused by the act of taking the vehicle away from my possession. We never agreed to anything, but the fact is the vehicle was paid for. It was being paid for and it was current except for the recent payment of 43 days late. However, my take is he co-signed which means he agrees to be just as responsible for the car as am i. But due to his actions of taken the vehicle i've lost my job for the most part, i was never notified of his intent therefore its put my through alot of stress which i was thinking i could claim punitive reimbursement and on top of that, its left me without a way of getting around causing a huge inconvenience to me and my daily life. his name is on the title so i understand he can take the car if i am FAILING to pay for it. However, the fact of the matter is, i was paying he never offered to help with the situation instead he has taken the vehicle. When i called the bank the day they said that it was current so i wanted to find out how so, that's when i found out he submitted the payment that friday. What i would like to do is sue for the 16 months of payment i've paid on the vehicle plus misc things that were taken with the car. Which it totals to around 7500 for the payments and misc stuff on the car. I figured with inconvenience and other damages i could sue for more. But with this situation, I am liable to have a case on suing him for the damages of basically stealing the car when there was no financial issue other than late payment, and only 30 days late? Since he was on the contract he could of contributed to keep it from being that way, however he waited and then submitted the payment in full and i know he has the money to help but he choose not too. Now i'm without a car, a job and no way of getting around efficiently when i need too. Do these actions seem suitable for my case as its presented? I would either like to sue him for damages or make it possible that he pay the next 12 months of the vehicle payment and have the car returned into my possession and at the end i be forced to refinance or sell if i'm not able to refinance.  more

Voting Question: I owe 8k for a car that I financed 10 years ago, they still have been sending me paperwork?

Hi, 10 years ago, when I was 19, I financed a used car. After having the car for a little over 2 months, it started to really fall apart on me and I was putting @ least 50-100 a week into getting the car repaired. I called the finance company and told them that I could no longer afford to make the car payments and to keep putting money into repairs and asked if they could perhaps lower the payment or help in any way. The lady I spoke to was very rude and said that wasn't their problem. So, needless to say, I dropped the car off at the finance office and told them to take the car back.....I have been avoiding them for almost 10 years, but now I just got a summons to court * a petititon to revive judement* paper in the mail. Is there anything I can do to get these guys off my back? I mean, I no longer live in the state where the courtdate is!!! What do I do???  more

Resolved Question: Car finance paperwork doesn't reflect late fee and now they claim I owe a late fee. What is the law on this?

I bought a used car from a local company that is financing it. According to my records I am up to date on payments and now they claim I owe them almost $70 in late fees. I looked over my paperwork that I signed and no where does it state what the percentage/fee is for late fees and I know I do not owe them any. I've asked them in writing 2 times now to provide me with a history of my payments and something to show where the late fees came from. Instead the send me a demand letter for the amount they claim I owe with no explaination, no breakdown, nothing. I have told them I will pay it as long as they can provide me with something to prove it's legit. At this point I just need info on the fact that none of their finance paperwork explains late fees. This company is based in Florida.  more

Yes I thought a full size-van but what make/model of van? Does anyone have experience with different makes/models they can share?  more

Voting Question: Building credit. Is this a solid plan?

My boyfriend and I are planning on getting married after college in 2 years. Our main holdback is that neither of us have credit, and it would be impossible to buy a place to live. So he devised a plan, and I'm not sure about it...so I'd like some input. He says to get some credit he'll need to buy something and pay it off, so he says that the most valuable thing he could buy would be my engagement ring. He'd pay it off in about a year, he thinks, and then he would be able to finance a used car at a dealership. After financing a car, and paying on it until the end of college, he should have good enough credit to finance a home. He doesn't plan on missing any payments. His parents won't sign with him on a car or anything...which is sad, but it's our situation. Will this plan work? If not, is there anything we can do to alter the plan to make it work? Thanks! Haha we have no intention of getting credit together. :)  more

Voting Question: Should I opt out of my lease and buy a used car to save money?

I'm considering leaving my full time job and going back to school and need to save as much money a month as possible. I currently lease an Audi for $468/ month w/ about 18 months left. For all you finance experts out there, would it make more sense to stay in my current lease, or opt out of my lease (going thru swaplease), and buy a used car for around 8 or 9k in cash? My thought process is it would save me on monthly payments (although I know I could keep the 9k I would be putting to a used car and just pay my monthly payments from that savings account and maybe earn a tad bit of interest). I also would probably keep the used car at least 2 years, so after my current lease is up in 18 months, I would still need to get into a different car. So, if I got into a similar lease, @468/month, in 2 years, I owuld have spent $11,232 (plus would be in a lease for 2+ more years) vs. purchasing a $9k car now and being able to keep it 2 plus years... Even though in reality, I'll probably want something else in 2 years if I buy a used car today. So what makes more sense??  more

Voting Question: Buying a Used Car...?

What do you guys think, In 3 months im gonna join a credit Union and apply for a used car loan for about $23,000 around. I pulled my credit history about 2 months ago and it consisted of this: 3 years of a $250 secured credit card all payments on time. 7 months of a unsecured $500 limit visa all payed on time, and a 11 month house note of $104,000 of $920.00 a month all payed on time. Since my second credit (7 months ago) card Ive been charging about 30% of each card and paying them off every month. It said my score was a 713. I plan on putting 2k down and I make about $3,150 a month. Do my chances look good or bad for this new/used car Im aiming for in 3 months? what about finance rate? good or bad? btw im trying to buy a 4 door family car. 2008 Pontiac G8. The two things Im worried about is low credit card limits and enough credit history or how long Ive had credit????  more

Voting Question: Buying, insuring, financing salvage title vehicle...?

I found an '08 Nissan Frontier with low miles that I would like to buy. However, it has a salvage title. A shop here in the city where I live has rebuilt the truck and it looks beautiful and has been cleared by the state to hit the road. The guy who rebuilt the truck says it had a front/side impact causing the driver's airbag to deploy. I have a few questions about this vehicle. 1. I've seen a carfax before, but IIRC, they don't specify the type of damage to the vehicle. Is there any way to find out exactly what had happened to this truck? 2. Will I be able to insure this vehicle? 3. While it's a salvaged truck, I would still need a loan of a few thousand dollars to buy the truck. Will banks loan money for this vehicle? If not a car loan could I get any loan for this? 3. I know if you buy a new or used car this year you can get a tax break. Does this still apply to a car that has a slavae title? Thanks in advance.  more

Voting Question: If I'm an exotic dancer, can I use that as proof of income when buying a car?

Or do finance companies frown upon that profession (due to no paycheck stubs and whatnot)? Just asking, cuz once I tried to get an apartment, and they wouldn't even accept a faxed letter from my job..... they said I needed a job that provided paycheck stubs. Are car dealerships pretty much the same?  more

Voting Question: Financing a used car out of state?

I'm in the market for a vehicle, however, the ones for sale in my region are too expensive. Now....I have located many out of state but i don't have the transportation or funds to go get them. Now if was to purchase a car, it would be financed but can I finance a car in another state. Which I guess will mean negotiating the price over the phone or online. Is this possible. Will I just pay MY state taxes and pay my monthly payment to the bank as if i purchased it in my home state.  more

Voting Question: I kissed another man but I have a partner and children!?

I have a boyfriend of 6 years and 2 children with him. The other nite I went out for a few drinks with my friend and we ended up speaking to guys we knew as kids. We all shared a taxi home and myself and 1 guy were last to get home. I really needed the loo so he said I could use his. Well I went to the toilet and then told him I was going to get the taxi home and we ended up kissing. I told him we couldnt have sex as I had to get home. He understood so he walked me home (bout 10 mins away). He really wanted to have sex and said he liked me for a while. We never had sex at all but he made it clear he liked me. I had never planned for this to happen it just did. Now I am so so confused. I cant stop thinkin about him and really want to see him again. I keep driving past his house to see if I can see him. I have seen him a few times since the other nite and he smiles at me and stares. When we are both along in our cars he will flash the lights at me. My partner works away and I have felt us grow furthur apart but I still really love him. He has gotten into a lot of debt and its pushing me away because I am worried about our future. We planned to marry next year but it all has to be put on hold. I worry about splitting up because of the kids but I also worry about our finances in the future because I would like to buy a house etc but my partner doesn't worry that we are in so much debt. Do you think I should see this other guy again? I feel so happy just thinkin about him and he is really sweet. I dont want a relationship with this other guy I just want to feel wanted again. The other nite he made me feel sexy again and my confidence about my body has gone through the roof. I really need some advice as I dont know what to do. My partner is away just now. He cheated on me a few years back with a distant relative of mine but I forgave him because he was so drunk. I dont know if I want my own back on him for cheating or if I actually have feelings for this guy. Lastly I am 21, my partner is 25 and this other guy is 24 just incase some of you are wondering. I would really appreciate it if you could help me out.  more

Voting Question: Can a couple go from being exclusive to dating?

About three weeks ago, my boyfriend of a year (we've known each other a year and a half) told me he wanted to change the dynamics of our relationship from exclusive to dating. He told me this early in the year, but I didn't understand what had happened. When we met and started to date, he said he wasn't looking for anything permanent, just dating. Then we both agreed to become exclusive. I know what we had was real for about six to eight months then things changed. He had some hard financial hits, health issues, work stress, etc. I told him that if going exclusive didn't work out we could go back to dating. I think this was my way of an out because he had told me about his past. He had said he was selfish and would make a great hermit and could be happy living alone. We would go out and he would stress over being in traffic and in crowds. He doesn't like crowds at all. He would go with me to places because he knew it meant a lot to me for us to do this. Things just haven't worked out as I had hoped. He doesn't like conflict or seeing a woman cry. I feel so hurt and betrayed right now, I'm lost. He said it wasn't over and I didn't need to take my stuff out of his place. He just wanted to go back to dating again. I left is place that evening and didn't break down in front of him. I held up until I got to my car. I hadn't slept for three days. All I could do at the time was cry. I broke down and called him crying the next night. I've been a mess since. He said he would call me, but it's been almost three weeks since that night I called. Told me then that he wanted to wait to call me when things settled down. Said that he still wanted to do things with me that we talked about doing. I know he's got issues with work, finances, issues from past relationships, abandonment issues from being abandoned when he was a child with no explanation from his mother. She left him with his grandparents and took his little brother with her. He's been in and out of relationships where he set himself up to be taken advantage of. I thought he was the one. Told him when this all came down that I didn't hate him and still love him. That my door was still open. I told him that if we ended it completely, we'd both lose. I'm hoping to remain friends. All of my friends I've talked with along with the counselor I've seen said to not call him. It's so hard. I miss my friend. I miss the simple things we used to do together like dinner and movies or just watching movies at home. I'm having a hard time going out to places I like to go to. Everything reminds me of him. I still love him. I don't hate him, just hate how all this turned out. He's got completion issues and I told him it was ok. The week before all this came down, I had slept over at his house. We had dinner together and he was talking about looking forward to seeing me on the weekend. He even said he got Viagra from his doctor and wanted to try it out. I called him on Fri. and he never returned my call. Weekend comes and goes and nothing. I called him Monday and was able to meet with him that evening. He told me he was being selfish over the weekend and that's why he didn't call. I told him that things seemed different and that's when he said that he wanted to go back to dating. He even told me that I was handling this more adult than he could ever do. I think he was expecting me to freak out and go off on him. He told me he wasn't seeing anyone else, but would like to date other women. He didn't want me to see him on the street with another woman. I'm ok with going back to dating. I just don't know or understand why this all happened. I thought we had this really great connection. When we would make love and he couldn't complete, he told me it was ok for me to find someone else to satisfy my sexual needs. That hurt me to the core. I tried to tell him it was ok and what I really wanted was to just be with him. The physical isn't that important to me. I enjoyed his companionship and everything we did together. He said he didn't really have that great of a sex drive even in his early 20s. I'm trying to move past this, but it's hard. My heart tells me to wait and see what happens. I really won't know until he contacts me. I miss sharing the little things with him. We used to talk in the evenings before bed. I've never loved anyone this intensely before. This break, break up, change in our relationship dynamics hurts me more than my divorce from my ex husband ever did. This is the first time I've ever lost someone I've really cared about. I know I have to make up my own mind about what I want to do. I don't want to cut and run, because I still feel there's something there, that he's just running scared. I don't want to push him, because I don't want him to back farther away. That's why I haven't called him. I've got my profiles out there for some of the date s * 5 days ago * - 1 day left for voting  more

Resolved Question: Doubled Standard Marriage or what?

My husband was deployed to Iraq for a year and just recently came back. I understand that temper comes with being in a combat environment, and some of things he said to me really hurt me and left me questioning about if there are inequalities in our marriage. During his deployment, I was living in an apartment. The military covered the rent, so we planned to keep it saved for a rainy day and use it to pay his bills which wasn't alot. I was working at the time, but I didn't have much left after my bills. When it came to bills, groceries, utilities, couch payment, etc. he told me specifically that he "wanted to come home to a mountain of money," and acted stingy, and would snap at me when ever I needed his help financially (it wasn't for shopping sprees). I had enough of arguing, so to save my money I earned, I survived on hot pockets and lost a lot of weight. When he came back he said it was "our money, and thats what the money was there for that he had growing in savings," and apologized for the way he was acting during our conversations over the phone. Months passed now, this time I lost my job and I'm relying on unemployment. Since he came back he threw a $4500 down payment for a nice german car, fully loaded when he traded in his SUV that I couldn't drive cause it was a stick. It was a slap in the face, but he needed to trade in the SUV for a car that wasn't going take up alot of gas. So I supported him in his purchase. A few months go by, and we still have a mountain of savings. I have been needing a necessary surgical procedure that is not covered by insurance and I can't afford to finance it alone. When I asked him about helping me, what was once "our money, all of a sudden becomes his money." He said that because hes the one that was deployed and saved the money, its his. The operation won't even nearly cost as much as he put down on the car. I don't know what to think about this marriage, I hope that I'm being overly sensitive and taking things out of context....or am I? Thank you so much for confirming that its not me taking it out of proportion. It hurts and saddens me seeing him roll around in what I sacrificied for so that he could do the things he has done and while I'm struggling. I feel ashamed for even doing what I did and put up with, its not going to happen again.  more

Resolved Question: Get charged $10 fee for using a credit card when making payments, how do I report them for breaking the law?

I finance my car through a small (and vicious) finance company in South Florida and each month that I made a payment with my Mastercard, they tag on an additional $10 credit card usage fee on top of my payment but when I mail in a check they do not charge me anything additional. I just read that it is illegal for the company to do this. How do I report this company for breaking the law? Last month my payment was a day late in getting to them and some fat obnoxious loud mouth woman came to my house banging on my door as if it were on fire demanding payment. I luckily mailed them a money order so I showed her the stub and she left. Now that I know about this whole bs credit card fee crap they pull, I want to report them and give them some grief. So far to date they've charged me almost $110 in credit card "fees" when opted to pay over the phone instead of mailing in a payment. I want my $110 back!  more

Voting Question: Am I required to get my car fixed?

Hey, I was involved in an accident where the only damage was to my vehicle and he was found to be at fault by his insurance company. I have received the check, and now I'm wondering if I really have to use the money to get my car fixed. Resolved Question: What makes the most financial sense... buy a used car or "invest" in an older one?

I'm trying to prove to my husband that it doesn't make sense to invest in a car because you'll never get your money back out of it... cars do not gain value only depreciate, right? We have a '04 cavalier, and my hsuband wants to put intake valves and all kinds of stuff on it... I think spending money on a car is a waste. He wants to either buy a used car or "invest" in the one we have. I say, do nothing, and keep the one we have the way it is. Resolved Question: At what age should a parent cut their kid off?

im asking because i have an older brother and sister, one is 25 and one is 30 and they still borrow money from my parents and my parents still pay their car insurance, they both have decent jobs where they earn money, and i wouldn't care if they borrowed money from my mom and dad if it didn't effect me but my mom and dad use them as an excuse for me not getting stuff like a car and for me having to wait to get my license til i was 17 im just asking is it right for my parents to give my older brother and sister money because their unstable finances, even if it affects my life as well as their life and their finances, my mom doesn't have as much emergency money because she gave it to them and now we have to start budgeting i would understand not getting stuff if i really knew that thier was no way i could get any of the stuff i wanted such a car, i've learned from my brother and sister not to depend on my parents for really anything because i don't want to do that to them i want to be indepent thats why my plan every since i turned 16 was to get a car then get a job so i could earn money and wouldn't have to ask my parents for much  more

Resolved Question: Blue Ribbon Chevrolet operating with questionable tactics?

Today a friend has spent most of the day on the telephone attempting to get the title for a car she had purchased from Blue Ribbon Chevrolet in Okmulgee, Oklahoma 4 months ago. She placed a check for $2,000.00 down payment after signing a contract with the dealership in which they agreed to provide financing for her. She was issued a citation a few weeks ago for failure to pay all taxes due the state of Oklahoma, since she was still operating the vehicle with the original dealer temporary tag. Blue Ribbon allowed the tag date to expire while failing to provide the financing as agreed upon in the signed contract. Blue Ribbon Chevrolet is now demanding that she return the vehicle to them because her ‘credit’ had gotten worse. As anyone with any credit knowledge knows, every time a request for credit is made on an account and denied, the credit score drops. Blue Ribbon Chevrolet has made repeated loan request through various lenders causing the credit bureau to lower her score. Has anyone else had a problem with this agency using this tactic? Resolved Question: Bought used car at Buy Here, Pay Here lot, but after three months still no financing deal. What can I do?

I bought my car at California Buy Here, Pay Here lot. I love the car but after three months almost four now, they still can't get the financing to go through and keep running my credit. I put down $2000 and have been paying faithfully month $340 based off the terms the Buy Here Pay Here lot wrote the contract for. I am about to file bankruptcy now and was hoping to keep this car. Now my attorney said that she is listing the car NOT to Reaffirm but to retain collateral and continue making payments. This so I can turn in the car at any point in time if I need to after the discharge without them being able to sue me later on. She also told me that there is NO valid legal contract because the financing company denied me NOT once, but twice and so the contract I had signed is null and void. I want to know, since this is the case, can I go back, turn the car back in and get all my money back? I put down $2000 and have made $670 in payments so far. There is no in-house financing, I didn't sign anything else. ALSO, she did a blue book and found that the car has dropped in value since purchase, can I renegotiate the price? They also refuse to get registration done on the vehicle because they said they need to get it financed. Help! If there are other alternatives, please let me know! After making some phone calls, I have found all replies to be wrong. I just got a call yesterday stating they can't get the car financed after three months. The dealer has lead me on to this point thinking everything has been done and they informed me they have forwarded my payments to finance company. Just to find out I have no finance company. Yes, I have insurance. I am passing this new information on to others as they have been clueless as I was until now. You can research this info yourself: If the car dealer cannot find someone to buy your purchase contract, it can cancel the purchase contract, BUT it must notify you within 10 days of the date on the purchase contract! If it does not, then the purchase is FINAL and cannot be cancelled. It states on the back of the contract. I found out: I do not have to turn in the car and they have to "honor" the contract and in-house finance it. They have been taking and accepting payments up until now and they must continue to do so.  more

Voting Question: How do I get financing to open a laundromat?

I am 29 years old. I do not own a house, nor do I have any debt. I don't have car payments or a student loan. I have money in retirement funds but very little in liquid cash. My credit is excellent. I want to open a laundromat. What is the feasibility of me getting the money I need to start this type of operation from a lending institution? Would I have to use any of my retirement savings as collateral? Can I finance 100% of the money I need to start the operation? Do regular banks like Bank of America give out these loans or do I need to go to some type of special lending institution?  more

Resolved Question: Getting stressed out about finances?

My boyfriend and I are in our early-mid twenties, living together and living a pretty typical life... for the over-worked and underpaid average American. Though we managed to stay afloat every month on our tight budget, we are tired of living paycheck to paycheck. We always come up with a plan to save money, but it seems that every month something happens that throws a real screwball in the whole situation. For example, we'll be doing okay - then a car will break, the house will need more heating oil, or a close family member gets married. Yes, essentially we do our best to prepare for the unexpected, but as a result we have no savings at all [[which makes me nervous as f*ck]] and it seems as though we are living on the edge. This month we just got hit really hard. We were knocked $300 in RIDICULOUS overdraft fees from our bank, because I floated some checks to pay bills [[I am never late paying bills - ever]], and my boyfriend got his check 4 days later than we expected to get it... therefore it caused an overdraft that I totally didn't expect. On top of that, we have cars to register and his brother is getting married in 2 weeks [[wedding present, tux rental, etc.]]. I'm stressing out. We don't live an extravagant life. We stay home and cook rice and veggies for dinner every night. I go home for lunch during the work week because I work close to home. We have basic cable/phone/internet. Our rent is very cheap - especially for what most people pay in our area. Neither one of us has bought new clothes in at least a year. We drive older cars - no car payments. Our debt consists of our student loans, and small credit cards [[which were used for the unexpected expenses that seem to happen]]. We purchase necessities, not impulsive "wants." Our biggest goal is to buy a house while the market is low as soon as we can. I feel like were doing everything right - both of us are working hard full time, paying bills on time and consciously *intending* to save every month. But still we feel trapped. We've looked at way to reduce our bills - but the only light at the end of the tunnel is paying off something, which we actively work towards [[I always pay more than the minimum payment - as much as I can afford to]]. But until then, AHHHH!!!! It seems like the only solution is that we both need to make more money - but in this economic climate, his boss "can't afford" to give him a raise, and I'm pretty much in the same boat myself. My boyfriend has been looking for other jobs in the field that pay more... but no luck yet. We'll sell stuff on eBay sometimes, but that's never consistent. Overall, I'm thankful for our life. I think we are both lucky right now to have stable jobs and a roof over our heads, and I'm especially grateful that we aren't the kind of couple that is "sensitive" about money issues - the financial tension has not caused a strain on our relationship. But we need some improvement. Thank you for reading and considering. I know it was long. And thank you for your advice.  more

Resolved Question: How long will an independent used car dealer let a car sit on their lot?

Hi, I've been shopping around for used VW GTI's. I'm looking in the 2003-2005 range. I currently put a bit of money (200 or so) and a weekend into an old vehicle I have, the engine in which runs like a dream (I have no plans to get rid of it, at the very least it'd be a winter car), so needless to say I'm in no position to be forced into my next car. There is a very clean 2003 VR6 VW GTI, with 56k miles. The dealers price is 11999. The car is about 2-3 packages short of loaded. (I personally do not prefer Leather, and don't really care about Climate control etc, but I figure that would be leverage on my side, against the dealers price). I gave the vehicle a very thorough inspection, drove it, and then had a chat with the dealer. I was very prepared when I came down. I made an offer of 10500 for the vehicle, as I had seen very similar models go for around this price range. The dealer simply told me "I don't have that kind of room". He didn't counter offer or anything. Am I to assume that 10500 for a sticker of 11999 was "Offensive" to him, and that I wasn't even in his personal ballpark? I thanked him, took his card and paperwork, and left. I was and am, preapproved from my credit union (which I work at), so he knew I had financing available. I really like the vehicle, but I was surprised at the complete lack of bargaining by this dealer. The vehicle has been on his lot for about 1.5 months now, probably approaching 2. Does anyone have any suggestions for what might be a good time to remind him that I am an interested buyer, and if he wants to move the vehicle, I'd definitely bite for the right price? Could he possibly just be waiting for an enthusiast (which VW's gather) with extra cash to spend who is willing to lay down the money because they've been looking for one of these? How long might this car sit on his lot before he decides to lower the price, or auction it? This is the dealer http://www.highlinecarconnection.com/ Thanks guys and gals! As an added note, I didn't properly convey, this vehicle does not have leather, or climate control. I believe its only additional feature is the power sunroom (I'm not 100% sure which package that is a part of). Thank you for all the great answers. Wish I could "Best Answer" multiple.  more

Resolved Question: She uses offensive language how can I stop her?

I'm friends with this old woman she is 40 with 2 kids and I'm 30 with no kids. I met her in college, she is very different. Her brother who is in the military came with his gf and kids to stay with her. I heard he has psychological problems and has been seen a Dr. When he does something wrong she calls him a retard. I don't know if she notices what she is doing, but I hated it I wanted to dig a hole and hide when she said it. I'm sure it hurt his gf but I don't know, personally I wouldn't be happy if my bf's family used offensive language like that. She doesn't have a job and her she just lost her car. A friend was looking for a babysitter and I asked her if she was interested to sit for 1 day and get $15 an hr, but she said no. This suprised me cause she I can see that she needs money. Another thing is that she is so loud, when we eat out and talk about stuff she doesn't control her voice even in the movies. I'm very calm and I have good manners, it seems like when I'm with her I have to hold my body and try to interrupt her if I see people around. I don't wanna hurt her feelings and sucking it up is hard cause it ruines my day. I like being around her when we are at her place cause no one is around us. Also I feel like she needs friends cause she is lonely and her situation is very depressing I feel like being around her helps her a lot not to worry about finances and stuff. How can I be a good friend?  more

Resolved Question: Question about second chance financing and returning a lemon.?

I purchased a 2001 acura cl with 107,000 miles for $9800 bucks. My apr is 21% (i know it is very high), I put $2000 down and my monthly payments are $377 bucks a month for 33 months. It's a jacked up deal but because my engine in my old car died, i HAD to get another car. I have a really high debt to income ratio and been behind on a couple credit cards for the last 3 months. So my credit score has dropped quite a bit. I had to do special financing. So the car i bought is garbage. I took it home the first day and it would not start again for about 10 mins. Then it started but did the same thing 2 days later. I had to have the car towed back to the dealership. I asked at that point to return the car because i was having a bad feeling about the future issues with the car. The said i couldnt return the car. The said the issue was i needed a new fuel injector or something. so the replaced it and sent me on my way. The car did the same thing 3 days later. They said it was the battery, so they replaced it and sent me on my way. Then it happened again a couple days later. They put the car in the shop for a week and called me to pick it up. I go to the svc dept to get the paperwork to see what was done and they told me they did nothing to the car because it started for them everytime they tried. So i take the car home and the next day, it did the same thing! I went back to the dealership today and they said they will sell me a 98 ford mustang with 59000 miles for $8000. The kelly blue book says the asking price should be $6200 from the dealership. i asked the sales manager and he told me that because it's "special financing" the second chance lender tacks on all these fees. Now my question is, if 8000 is the sale price, the lender dont see any of that money. The lender makes their profit from that high interest rate they are charging me, right. I just want to know if the dealership is feed me a load of crap or not. I would think the would bend over backwards for me after selling me a lemon that left me stranded four times. The car dont fall under the tx lemon law because its a used car and not under the original warranty. I'm told that if i try to give the car back, they will keep my $2000 deposit because they sent most of it to the state for title and taxes. I think they are not being truthful about most of the stuff they told me. I think they are doing everything they can to keep this deal. What should i do?? any advice would help! Thanks!!  more

Voting Question: How do banks determine interest rates?

My friend has quite the dilemma as she just split with her boyfriend and will soon have no vehicle. I have offered to help but we haven't decided which route to go. One of the many options we're considering is her financing a slightly used car, but she has no credit so she would need a cosigner in order to do it. I have the following for credit scores: 710, 712, and 728. I've done my research and determined I would be able to get a rate of 7-9%, but we don't want the loan in just my name so that she can establish her own credit. What type of rate would we get with these scores and her no credit history? We need to know this in order to weigh our options. If anyone has any finance experience, your help would be greatly apreciated! Thank you! (ps- I'm not asking for advice as to what to do in this situation, just want to know what WOULD happen if we chose this path)  more

Resolved Question: Is this the worst corruption and cronism since teapot dome?

http://market-ticker.denninger.net/archives/1138-Executive-Branch-Corruption.html Corruption is a strong word, but it appears warranted given the two stories of import this weekend. First, on the firing of inspectors general: WASHINGTON - -- He was appointed with fanfare as the public watchdog over the government's multi-billion dollar bailout of the nation's financial system. But now Neil Barofsky is embroiled in a dispute with the Obama administration that delayed one recent inquiry and sparked questions about his ability to freely investigate. Treasury, you see, is refusing to turn over documents - items that Barofsky believes he needs to do his job properly. Mr. Barofsky's job is, for those of you who need a refresher, to investigate potential fraud and abuse in the TARP program. One would think that Treasury would be very interested in the integrity of that program, and submit without quarrel to any inquiry by the OIG's office, which was incidentally set up for the specific purpose of "watchdogging" the program itself. It appears not. Then there are two other IG firings: The first dismissal occurred last week, when the White House terminated Gerald Walpin, inspector general of the service agency AmeriCorps. Walpin claims his dismissal was unjust, the result of political interference. This one is particularly interesting because AmeriCorps is part and parcel of Obama's trademark "GIVE" bill - that is, the "youth service" corps that was put together for supposed "civic purposes." The IG in question, Gerald Walpin, was a Bush appointee. The WSJ wrote this about the controversy: A George W. Bush appointee, Mr. Walpin has since 2007 been the inspector general for the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency that oversees such subsidized volunteer programs as AmeriCorps. In April 2008 the Corporation asked Mr. Walpin to investigate reports of irregularities at St. HOPE, a California nonprofit run by former NBA star and Obama supporter Kevin Johnson. St. HOPE had received an $850,000 AmeriCorps grant, which was supposed to go for three purposes: tutoring for Sacramento-area students; the redevelopment of several buildings; and theater and art programs. Mr. Walpin's investigators discovered that the money had been used instead to pad staff salaries, meddle politically in a school-board election, and have AmeriCorps members perform personal services for Mr. Johnson, including washing his car. At the end of May, Mr. Walpin's office recommended that Mr. Johnson, an assistant and St. HOPE itself be "suspended" from receiving federal funds. The Corporation's official charged with suspensions agreed, and in September the suspension letters went out. Mr. Walpin's office also sent a civil and/or criminal referral to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California. Now remember, we were sold "an open administration" and "hope and change." What we appear to have received is just the change - about 2 cents, while the other 98 are siphoned off as political favors, and when an independent watchdog does their job and is uncovering what sure looks like a prima-facie case of looting of the public treasury, obtaining the approval of the corporation's own people and referring the matter for prosecution, The Obama Administration sacks him. Second, there is the outright lying by The Obama Administration with regards to his "notice" to critics of his "financial overhaul" proposal: "These are the interests that have benefited from a system which allowed ordinary Americans to be exploited," Obama said. The president said he would stand up for his plans, saying: "While I'm not spoiling for a fight, I'm ready for one. The most important thing we can do to put this era of irresponsibility in the past is to take responsibility now." Does that include Fannie, Freddie, and Lockhart? Remember this from just yesterday? June 19 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama’s program to help more homeowners refinance may be expanded to include borrowers who owe more than 105 percent of their homes’ values, Federal Housing Finance Agency Director James Lockhart said. The Obama administration is considering allowing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to refinance loans with current loan-to-value ratios of 125 percent or higher, Lockhart said at a National Association of Real Estate Editors Association conference in Washington yesterday. And my comment thereupon: If you are underwater on your house and take a deal like this, you are as dumb as a box of rocks and have just consented to being bent over the table and violated repeatedly. That our government would propose "allowing" such a thing is fomenting financial rape upon The American Public. Period. I will stake a case of scotch on the bet that there will be no "clear, plain" disclaimer on any such refinance "offer" containing the following language in 14-point block type: CAUTION TO THE CONSUMER:  more
