I graduated a year ago with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering. I still haven't found anything after a year of looking. Other than a few interviews but I got my last interview 10 months ago. I'm an entry level chemical engineer that has been looking for work since graduating last May. I have had several interviews but I never landed any of the jobs. Since late July last year I have not heard back from anybody. I'm guess the economy has something to do with that. So now what? I've applied to probably 300+ jobs since july and not had so much as a phone interview. So I'm thinking about getting an internship to try to get some experience. I am faced with a bit of a predicament. I am about to graduate with a BSChE with a pretty good GPA (>3.6) but no work experience in the chemical industry. I graduated from University of Michigan recently and majored in Chemical Engineering, probably the hardest major. It was a VERY difficult 9 semesters. I was assured by all that this was a great field and jobs were really in demand. However, I'm doubting this now. Every time I apply for an *entry level* job, whether it be careerbuilder, Kelly services, craigslist, university career hiring network, I NEVER get any calls back. Everytime I try to "network" with someone already working in a particular company and get to know him/her personally, they all inevitably refer me back to "apply on the website and HR will get back to you" ..which they never do. It's been 4 months now I'm about to explode. BTW i've completed a research internship over the summer and I have office work experience to boot. Granted, I have a B/B- GPA but I don't even state this on the resume or application so that can't be it. I graduated in May 2004. I have had a couple of serious interviews, but it seems like there are a lot of applicants for a few "entry-level" jobs. There are a lot of job openings for people with 3+ years of experience. But if I can't get a job, I can't get any experience. Is the movement of so many manufacturing jobs overseas causing an oversupply of engineers here in the US?
