Can electrical and electronic engineers get computer-related jobs?
Hey! I am soon going to be starting my Electrical and electronic engineering Bachelor's course from a great institute... Do you know whether Computer related companies like Microsoft, Apple, IBM, Sun, etc take in electrical and electronic engineering graduates? I always liked computers a lot..and have considerable aptitude in programming and stuff...but i didn't choose CS as people say there is less scope of job opportunities...and that the IT/Computer Software sector was the one of the first and most badly affected by recession.. Plus...i got the impression that EEE graduates can venture into computer jobs...but not vice versa... So i was wondering... Are there jobs available for them? If not, which types of companies are there which can take them up? And is there anyway i can make myself employable for computer industry jobs? In a stable economy, California has a fantastic engineering stronghold. Are jobs still available in that industry, even now? Hi people, Ok this is a very vague question, but I'm currently doing electrical engineering at University of Sydney (2nd year) and I was wondering if any of you out there had any pointers/tips/help on succeeding both the course, and the workplace once I've graduated (assuming that I do pass =] .) Also, I need to pick electives for next year, what are some suggestions? *Note that my programming is not so good, I'm confident in mathematics, physics, and circuit design* Any other input is welcome (provided it'll somehow help me with my studies!) P.S Just to give you guys an idea, my marks aren't great but I'm not worried so far about failing anything. Although I've been told I need at least a distinction (75~84%) average to get a good job and I'm kinda stressing out because my average for 1st year was 73% moreOpen Question: What kind of jobs can I get?
I am a recent graduate from the University of Arizona with a degree in electrical engineering. My only relevant work experience is a year working in a research lab on campus. I graduated with a 2.9 GPA. I can't get security clearance, not for at least another 18 months anyway. I don't know anybody that could help, who is actually willing to help, me get a foot in the door anywhere. Any suggestions would be appreciated, but I'm really looking for a start to my career and am not interested in becoming a waiter, cashier etc. Did I really have to add no spam? Filling out surveys isn't a job. And buying somebody else's book helps them get money and isn't a job either. moreOpen Question: Communications or General Studies for Associates Degree?

Now I don't understand how or where "Electrical engineers" come into play into this ?? Please make me understand. I want to know. P.s: I am an entry level electronics engineer, with a degree in "Electrical engineering" , Currently I am located in Houston, texas. moreVoting Question: Ex moved to TX, found job there too, should I go?
My ex and I dated for 2 years and things started heading south when he accepted a job in Austin, TX. At the time, we were still dating and I had no intention to move there and made it very clear that I did not want to. We broke up, but continued to talk and practically date for the rest of the year but not officially (stupid, I know). Now that we've both graduated, he's down there in Austin and I'm at home, 1000 miles away, looking for jobs and potentially going to graduate school close to here. We're both electrical engineering majors and well, that's where the jobs are now, in Texas and mainly in Austin. I've been applying like crazy to Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Florida, and yes, Austin, and Austin seems to be the only place picking me up, with multiple recruiters and companies e-mailing me back. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Austin seems like a great town with a wonderful scene for young people, but he's down there. However, I don't want to limit myself immediately and say no to a place if there's opportunity available, because he shouldn't affect my decisions to do anything. I had sent him a couple of messages a few days ago stating my intent to move to Austin (even though it's not said and done yet) and he and I talked because he wanted to make sure that I wasn't doing it for him. He also stated that he wanted to move down here and start a new life, free from with minimal interaction with anyone or anything he ever knew of for the first 21 years of his life. And he felt that my move there would complicate things and I would instantly assume a reconnection there. However, I had every intention of not telling him I was even going if I was to move there. I have the right to do the same thing he did - pick up and forget everything and just be happy. Am I wrong? I'm not sure how to handle this situation. moreVoting Question: Is there really a huge difference between EET and EE degrees?
Ive heard alot of bad things about electrical engineer techs. I have also heard that many companies will hire either/or for the same job. Is that true? moreResolved Question: I'm thinking of dropping out of college..?
I'm 25 years old!! I'm still struggling in college I literally hate my major it's too damn hard (electrical engineering) I spent 7 years of my life in college just to get D's and F's and finish only about 60% of the 162 hours to get a BSC degree. Should I just give up and look for a job? I really don't think I can handle it anymore.. moreResolved Question: Is it possible to get a job in electrical engineering without a degree?
I was bizarrely and ridiculously expelled from my college with no hope of returning. I went through all the appeals and tried to bring them to court but couldn't. It's crazy. I have done some years there but didn't graduate. Will I find it very hard to get a job related to electrical engineering given the current recession? moreOpen Question: What type of engineers design the layouts for plumbing, electrical conduit?

I dont really have any interests. I'm 15. I don't have any hobbies, and i don't really feel the need for any, but my stepdad keeps trying to encourage me to find some. For instance, he is a 56 year old engineer, who knows how to re-wire an entire electrical system, put together an entire computer, he bakes, flies toy aircraft, plays tennis, studies nutritional stuff, works on cars, and is currently learning morse code so he can talk on radio's or something like that, and he works a full time job. Seems like he's accomplished alot. I don't really want to do anything though. I'm just focused on getting through school, finding a job, and going off to college so i can have a great career. Thats the only thing i'm motivated to do. I also like hanging out with my friends at the mall and other normal teen stuff, but is it wrong that i dont have interests in learning anything other than what i'm taught in school? I just kinda have a "Why bother" attitude about it, because it's not like painting birdhouses is going to get me a PHD. Advice, and suggestions please? ~OKK. moreResolved Question: i wanna to know that electrical engineering is better or not?for nice,, white colour job, n incom.? please?

I have got a good score in Tancet and would like to pursue M.E/M.Tech. I'm a B.E (EEE); What are all streams would give best job opportunities on completing my M.E? Can someone guide? moreResolved Question: Our education system is the source of all evils....?
UGC / AICTE is a colossal waste and should be scraped: "Bureaucracy is the art of making the possible impossible". I read this interesting article which recommends that UGC/AICTE should be scraped: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India/India/Panel-suggests-UGC-AICTE-be-scrapped/articleshow/4693678.cms The huge regulatory bodies like UGC and AICTE, have carefully delinked the entire academia from the industry. It's a huge bapudom to generate 50 million bapus every year. This has ruined the life of millions of youths and should be completely scraped. Job seekers and NOT job creators: Our education system is pathtic, to say the least. British have left in 1947 but still we are holding on to their outdated legacy designed to produce "most obedient Bapus". Forget about the success of few IITs and IIMs which continues to produce world class "job seekers" for the US maket, since 50 years. Every year our education system is producing 50 million job seekers - 6 million graduate engineers, 10 million diploma and various trade skills certified engineers and around 35 million science, commerce and arts graduates. The system does not impart any essential skills for the youths to become job creators. Every highly qualified youth wants to leave India and get settled in US/UK/Australia. In fact, it's considered as a social status and ultimate proof of one's capability. Industrial trainers and consultants: I have worked with plant technicians and operators and have learnt hard core process & technical skills which could not be taught by university professors. A technician / plant operator with 25 years of experience knows far better about the process and machines than a professor. The best way forward to bring industrial skills into an institution is to have an autonomous layer called Industrial Trainers and Consultants which is NOT bound by any regulatory bodies. Let the institutions decide the best industrial trainers, they can hire. The highly qualified professors and lecturers with Ph.D's and Master's have their own place in an university and institution. Let us NOT mix both. But they can NOT impart industrial skills. I know professors teaching electrical engineering for 25 years, who have never visited a power station in their life. We can't blame them because that knowledge is not part of their curriculum. moreVoting Question: Which is the Mostly prefered course in MBA?

My son just graduated college. He can't get a job because of the economy (he has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a 3.7 GPA from Rutgers), but you probably would not guess that he is an 'enthusiast' of cannabis. He also would probably (unfortunately) not be able to get a job anyway because of his smoking pot. He's been a "pot head" for a while now. My husband and I became aware how often he was smoking it. When we confronted him he said if he stops smoking now he feels uncomfortable and anxious. His doctor prescribed him a medication like Xanax called "Ativan." What will that do? Will it help or will he feel better? Also are marijuana withdrawal effects that real? I never guessed they would even exist. moreVoting Question: im so confused and hesitated and soo not sure of which of communication engineering or architecture engineer?

Im 18 and my dad is so ****ing annoying. Im a good kid (3.61 gpa in electrical engineering for freshman year, dont do drugs, frequently help my poppop with tasks around his house) and my dad is always on my ass about something. Its summer so obviously im out of school and i have the same part time job ive had for a while and my dad wont get off my case about finding a second job. Really everyday he calls me at least twice to check on me to see if im looking for another job (and i am but not many people are hiring, even fewer for someone who is looking for more seasonal work). If i got another job then great but my dad will always find something else to urk me on. Lets say I got my BA degree in engineering from Umass Amherst, and one friend got an engineering degree at a small expensive private school and did well, while my third friend went to a competative college (MIT) for example. What is the difference in getting a job? Can they make the same wages? Reason I am asking this, is because if I do all the work at a public school and get the same job, then why pay double the price and go to a private school. ex: Umass Lowell; Umass Amherst Engineering degree vs BU MIT or small private schools that you don't know if some one mentioned it. So what if i went to a public university that had a really good reputation and engineering rank but was a big party school..would I get distracted easily? moreResolved Question: I regret my choices. Anxiety and depression are starting to overwhelm me. What can I do?
I'm 21 and going to school for electrical engineering and I'm doing great academically. Through high school up until a couple of years ago, I used to play music in a rock band, which I loved. Once I reached the crossroads, I chose to drop music from my life to dedicate all the time I could to school so I could do my best. That has since played out; unfortunately, I've pretty much lost all my friends in the meantime (as they were musicians and kept on playing) and now I don't know what to do with myself. I'm alone and isolated and don't connect with any of the new people I meet. I know that I should really be happy and appreciate all the good things happening to me (I have a well-paying internship and everything) but all I think about is what I perceive as a bleak future full of monotony and despair. My old friends are so far gone (they don't really care about me or what I'm doing anymore); the true happiness I used to have is so far gone. I'm only a year away from finishing school and doing so well, though. For the sake of all I have invested, I want to finish with high grades, but after school I don't know what I'll do. I mean, I hate the job I have now... I'm lost and confused and I don't really have anyone to turn to. My parents probably think I'm fine since I do so well in school, but they don't really know. My girlfriend's typical response is, "There's really nothing wrong with your life." And she's right, but what can I really do if I'm just not happy? Can someone give some advice? moreResolved Question: Which would be the best option?
I have decided to attend college and major in film production. Aside from my passion for film, I also really enjoy electronics and computers. Since my film production major isn't insanely intense, I thought I would double major in my other interest. This would also be a good option to help me land a well paying job which I would also enjoy while working on films. I can't decide between electrical engineering and computer science. Which would be a better choice? I would love to do something related to robotics, but both degrees can lead into that. I feel that the extra work would be beneficial and rewarding to gain such knowledge. I am stuck between the two. If you have any experiences with electrical engineering, computer science, or went for either major, please share your knowledge and experience! Electrical Engineering or Computer Science? Thanks in advance! moreResolved Question: I am confuzed about my after X+2 study carear....?

I am a third year student in Electrical Engineering ( Economics Minor ) student. I am really interested in investment banking especially in areas concerning equity research especially those involved in IT markets or technology based markets. I also have a Minor in Economics because I took a few Micro and Macro Economics courses in my college. I have a GPA of 3.5 and I have a really strong background in Mathematics. I am graduating next year and I am now studying in one of the colleges in Canada. Given that the world is BETTER in the future, is it possible for me to land a job as an analyst in the top investment banking firms ( bulge bracket )? Also I heard that these bulge bracket firms took only those from Ivy League schools, so is my school comparable to Ivies if we kicked some Ivy ass'es in the world ranking? :P If this is possible, can anyone provide the reasons. moreResolved Question: Electrical Engineer: Take a foreign language or Graduate early?
I am an electrical engineer undergrad student. I dont have a foreign language requirement. I planned out my undergraduate classes up until the fourth year, and i see that i can take a few extra classes.I was wondering if taking a foreign language ( currently thinking about japanese) is really a necessary skill for electrical engineers in their jobs. Otherwise, I'm wondering if i should graduate a term early. P.S. if there are other classes recommended as filler classes, i'd appreciate suggestions. moreResolved Question: What is the difference between an Electrical Engineer and an Electronics Engineer?

I would like to get a job designing electronic devices, not some boring job at a power plant or power station. Could you please cover these questions : 1. What is the difference between the two engineering degrees? 2. Would both degrees be acceptable for a person who wanted to design and create electronic devices for films, tv ads and such? moreResolved Question: What is a good college major for me?

(location: Los Angeles) moreResolved Question: B.Sc in Mech.Eng.+HVAC technician Licenses, Now what.?
I wish someone could help me with my dilemma: I have bachelors degree in mech.eng. from outside of canada, my degree is evaluated by U.of Toronto as 'comparable to a reputable canadain university' , however, still no employer is ready to hire me as an engineer. I therefore decided to get canadian licenses in HVAC field. After about 5 years of simultaneous studying & working, I recently recieved my C of Q (highest certificate in refrigeration & a/c) as well as my G1 (highest certificate in heating). As far as i know, for a hvac technician getting these 2 licenses are the end of education, but i'd like to go further & study in a field with a good job prospect & demand. If you were in my shoes would you: (a)Go after getting a masters degree in mechanical engineering ..OR.. (b)Go after getting more "Technician" certificates, such as 'instrumentation/automation technician', 'electrical/electronics technician' , 'PLC technician(programmable logic controllers' etc. moreResolved Question: Where can one find exactly what jobs individuals can get with a particular degree?
Of course you can say someone with an electrical engineering degree is an electrical engineer, but what exactly do they do on a day to day basis? Colleges will tell you what companies their graduates have gone on to work for, but what are the graduates doing for those companies? moreResolved Question: thoughts on Berklee Music online?
I would love to physically go to a music school, but until my Job offers to pay for me to go to school for music instead of electrical engineering and offers convenient anytime learning - I am all for it! http://www.berkleemusic.com/ is there any validity to online class? sorry for the repeat guys, i don't believe my first question was descriptive enough and the title was pretty vague. re edit - i am not in it for a career :p I am doing it out of enjoyment. - also - i wanted to go for the theory. moreResolved Question: Should I go back to school for music?
I'm 25, have a degree in electrical engineering, working at an engineering firm out of state away from all my family and friends. Growing up I was very musical and also very computer literate. So deciding to go the computer route was a hard decision for me. I think I mostly decided to go that way because engineering is definitely a more stable and profitable future. Now that I'm working I really dislike what I'm doing and the thought of doing this for 30/40 more years is depressing. I could possible get in to a different area but I'm still not sure that would be fulfilling enough. I've been in musicals that have toured multiple states and during college I received tuition money for singing at a church. I haven’t been singing since college (2 years) and have been away from my friends and family and I feel so lost. So, the positives I think would be that I would be happier doing something I love more and near my friends and family. Downsides are, I would be giving up a good paying and stable job and needing to take more student loans out. During college I developed a bad case of social anxiety disorder which I still suffer from. So performing again is going to be difficult at start. What do you think? I have about 10k in student loans and by the end of the year I will have no CC debt. I would definitely have to have some kind of income. I performed at weddings and funerals in college before and could also do tech support. If that didn't provide enough I could get a part time job easily enough. I do have some savings but not enough to last too long. moreElectrical Engineer Jobs News
